BMKG Detects La Nina in Indonesian Region, What Is It?

Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has detected the La Nina phenomenon in the Indonesian region. This atmospheric phenomenon is predicted to occur from November 2025 to February 2026. BMKG Chief Dwikorita Karnawati explained that the detected La Nina falls into the weak category, influenced by temperature differences in the Pacific Ocean. ‘The threshold for weak La Nina is minus 0.5, so this is already at 0.61, meeting the criteria for weak La Nina,’ said Dwikorita during a press conference on Rainy Season Preparedness broadcasted via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (11/1/2025). This phenomenon coincides with the onset of the peak rainy season in the country, which falls on Saturday (11/1). Rainfall is expected to initially increase in the western part of Indonesia before moving towards the eastern regions.
