Bolsonarist leader in the Chamber denies agreement with Motta for amnesty and apologizes for occupation

The leader of the PL in the Chamber, Sóstenes Cavalcante (RJ), softened his radical speech during the blockade of work this week and apologized on Thursday (7). He also stated that there was no agreement with President Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) for the vote on amnesty for those involved in the coup acts of January 8. In a nearly empty chamber, Cavalcante clarified that there was a commitment from the main party leaders to support the inclusion of amnesty and the end of privileged forum on the agenda. He apologized to Motta and denied that the opposition had blackmailed the Chamber president. ‘President Hugo Motta was not blackmailed by us and did not commit to any agenda with us. It is not the right-wing’s behavior to blackmail anyone, neither the Chamber president nor the Senate. But it is important to remember that there are parliamentarians being blackmailed by Supreme Court ministers,’ said the PL leader. About 50 Bolsonarist deputies occupied the Chamber for about 30 hours. The evacuation only took place after an agreement that had former House Speaker Arthur Lira (PP-AL) as one of the guarantors. In response to Cavalcante, PT leader Lindbergh Farias (RJ) said that what happened was ‘mutiny and seizure of the Chamber’. ‘They say they will only leave if amnesty is voted on. How is that not blackmail? What? And what is (deputy) Eduardo Bolsonaro doing every day in the United States? Is that blackmail or not?’ questioned the PT member. Between the two speeches, Motta briefly spoke. According to him, ‘what happened yesterday was a day of many challenges. The important thing to say is that our democracy is non-negotiable.’
