Jair Bolsonaro declared that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) will be his candidate for the Presidency of Brazil in the 2026 elections. The choice of a family member was communicated to close associates this week. This is the first time the former president, who is in prison in the Federal Police headquarters in Brasília, has expressed such an intention. Bolsonaro believes that his eldest son will gain strength for the race as long as he behaves as a candidate for the Planalto Palace and holds events throughout Brazil. In the former president’s view, Flávio consolidates party unity and has a significant base of allied governors such as Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) in São Paulo and Cláudio Castro (PL) in Rio de Janeiro.
