Brazil Supports Malaysia’s Bid to Join BRICS as Full Member

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has shown firm backing for Malaysia’s desire to become a full member of the BRICS bloc. He praised Malaysia as a natural partner with shared values and significant economic growth potential. Lula stated, ‘I believe that effective action is crucial. Do I support Malaysia becoming a full member of BRICS? Absolutely.’ He made this declaration during a press conference on his inaugural visit to Malaysia for the 47th Asean Summit. In 2024, Malaysia was officially recognized as a partner country of BRICS, alongside 13 other nations, collectively representing one-fifth of global trade. Initially standing for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, BRICS now includes Malaysia as a valued ally.
