The Brazilian man Iago Queiroz Costa, 32, has been missing since he returned from the United States and landed at Confins International Airport. He was deported and arrived at the airport on the night of last Wednesday (22/10). According to family reports, who have been searching for information on his whereabouts since then, he was last seen at the UPA in Vespasiano in the early hours of Saturday (25/10). In a conversation with Estado de Minas, Iago’s aunt, Virgínia Queiroz, said that her nephew is from Montes Claros, in the North of Minas Gerais, and had been living in Eatontown, New Jersey, for 7 years. She mentioned that he was a focused young man, graduated in IT, and wanted to experience living outside of Brazil. In August this year, his aunt reported that Iago was arrested and transferred to ICE – US Immigration and Customs Enforcement – where he went through five detention centers before being deported. Virgínia mentioned that her nephew has had psychiatric disorders for about two years and has been hospitalized three times. The family was monitoring Iago’s whereabouts through the ICE website. However, his name disappeared from the system on the last Wednesday (22/10), indicating that he had been deported. Subsequently, family members were able to confirm that Iago was taken with the group of deportees to the Ibis Style Hotel in Confins, with the support of the Federal Government’s reception program. ‘But they said that everyone had already left there on Friday (24/10). We started a search to find out where he is since he did not arrive in Montes Claros. It was a terrible anxiety, searching in the early hours to try to find him and get some information. We contacted firefighters and the IML to try to locate him,’ Virgínia stated. In a new contact with the Ibis Hotel, it was informed that Iago had been taken to the Emergency Care Unit in Vespasiano, in Greater Belo Horizonte. ‘The social worker mentioned that he was at the UPA and escaped in the early hours of Saturday (25/10). She informed the team that she could not leave him alone and that he needed supervision. They also filed a police report,’ the aunt said. Virginia Queiroz asks for help to find her nephew, last seen in the Vespasiano area. According to reports, Iago has long hair, shoulder-length, a full and long beard.
