BRICS States Join Forces with EU to Establish Carbon Market Standards

Another step towards a multipolar world order, BRICS co-founder Brazil and the European Union have collaborated to advocate for the integration of national carbon markets worldwide. The formation of the Open Coalition on Compliance Carbon Markets by Brazil and the EU aims to boost carbon markets as a key driver of climate action, with a focus on achieving long-term interoperability. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed support for the alliance, emphasizing the importance of carbon pricing in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underscored the need for common parameters to scale up carbon markets, highlighting their potential as significant revenue sources.
