Britain confirmed on Wednesday that it had deported a convicted child sex abuser to Ethiopia, who was erroneously freed last week instead of being transferred to an immigration center. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated, “I have pulled every lever to deport Mr. Kebatu and remove him off British soil. Our streets are safer because of it.” Hadush Kebatu, an Ethiopian national, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Epping, Essex. However, her release sparked protests near the London hotel where he had been staying, leading to clashes and arrests.
