A bus carrying around 40 Cruzeiro fans caught fire on BR-040 in Nova Lima, in the Greater Belo Horizonte area, on Sunday night (8/10). According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the fans were returning to São João del-Rei after the Cruzeiro-Santos match at Mineirão when an engine failure caused the fire at kilometer 547 of the highway.
In a video shared on social media, a passenger mentioned that he was chatting with friends when the driver warned everyone to ‘get off without panicking.’ Fortunately, no one was injured. The passengers were taken to their destination by another bus.
The bus was completely destroyed by the flames and remains by the side of the highway. There is no estimate for its removal yet. Traffic was blocked in the right lane, southbound, until the fire was under control.
The fire damaged the electrical wiring of the highway. According to Cemig, seven customers are without power. The supply is expected to be normalized by Monday (8/11).
