Calls for Indonesia to Accept Foreign Disaster Aid Increase

JAKARTA/MEDAN – The death toll from the hydrometeorological disaster in Sumatra is nearing 1,000, with many areas still struggling to receive much-needed aid. There are growing concerns about the government’s ability to handle the situation without international assistance. It has been two weeks since flash floods and landslides, caused by a rare tropical cyclone, devastated Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, particularly impacting the northern part of the island.
