Australian design software startup Canva recently unveiled a groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) model that is capable of understanding and generating designs. According to Danny Wu, head of AI products at Canva, previous AI models struggled with generating editable designs, but Canva’s new Design Model can create layered designs with customizable elements. This innovative approach allows for collaboration between AI and humans, marking a significant advancement in design capabilities. Canva has leveraged its expertise to develop this AI model, which powers the Creative Operating System, a comprehensive platform that facilitates the entire creative process, from design to publishing and performance.
The Creative Operating System integrates various tools and features to enhance the user experience. The Visual Suite includes a revamped video editor with AI-powered automation, an Email Design feature for creating branded marketing emails, and Canva Sheets integration for interactive data widgets. Additionally, the Forms feature enables users to collect feedback and data seamlessly. Canva’s AI enhancements, such as Canva AI assistant and Ask Canva feature, provide intelligent design suggestions and feedback in real-time, supporting collaboration and co-designing with humans.
Moreover, Canva introduces new tools for brand management and marketing campaigns, including Canva Grow, a marketing platform that streamlines creation, publishing, and performance tracking. The Brand system ensures brand consistency by integrating guidelines and assets directly into the editor. The company also launches Canva Business, targeting individuals and small teams seeking advanced AI and analytics tools for business growth. Affinity, Canva’s professional software suite, combines essential design tools into a universal product now available for free.
Canva, founded in 2013, boasts over 260 million monthly active users globally, with India emerging as a key market. The company’s revenue surpasses $3.5 billion annually, with a valuation of $42 billion and renowned investors like T. Rowe Price and Sequoia Capital. Canva’s expansion into AI-driven design solutions signifies a significant milestone in the evolution of creative technology.
