Jair Bolsonaro’s defense, sentenced by the Supreme Federal Court to 27 years and 3 months in prison for the coup plot, asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes for the former president to serve his sentence under house arrest, arguing that his health condition ‘poses a concrete and immediate risk to physical integrity and life’ in case he is taken to a common prison. The request is supported by a medical report describing a complex condition, including permanent sequelae, multiple comorbidities, and a recent history of hospitalizations. Signed by doctors Claudio Birolini and Leandro Santini Echenique, the document states that Bolsonaro ‘has comorbidities requiring continuous medication treatment’ and that, since the 2018 stabbing, he has ‘permanent and irreversible sequelae, including partial atrophy, hernias, abdominal wall damage, intestinal adhesions, and the loss of a large part of the large intestine’. According to Bolsonaro’s doctors, he needs continuous monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate, as well as regular access to laboratory tests and imaging exams, and multiprofessional follow-up.
