Former Bope champion, Rodrigo Pimentel, discussed the mega operation against the Red Command conducted last Tuesday (28) in Rio de Janeiro, which ended with over 130 deaths.
In an interview with CNN Brasil, Pimentel, creator of the movie ‘Tropa de Elite,’ stated that criminal organizations’ profits go far beyond drugs nowadays.
‘There is also a truth that no one talks about: these factions no longer survive just on marijuana and cocaine; they survive on territory exploitation. This includes Paraguayan cigarettes, the Red Command’s TV and internet signal, known as CVNET, overpriced gas cylinders, extortion of bakeries, butchers, and barbecue sellers. Two weeks ago, a young man selling barbecue in Fortaleza was killed because he didn’t pay the $1,000 fee to the Red Command in the neighborhood,’ said Pimentel, who criticized former Supreme Court Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, who argued that security is the states’ responsibility.
