China claims to be militarily threatened by Japan, says Chinese minister

Japan is threatening China militarily, which is ‘completely unacceptable,’ said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to his German counterpart, after Tokyo claimed that Chinese fighters had pointed their radars at Japanese military aircraft. Japan denounced the encounter as a dangerous act, although China accused Japan of sending aircraft to repeatedly approach and disturb the Chinese Navy while it was conducting previously announced carrier flight training east of the Miyako Strait. Relations have deteriorated in the past month, since Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi warned that her country could respond to any Chinese military action against Taiwan if it also threatened Japanese security. During a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Beijing on Monday (8), Wang Yi stated that, considering that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Japan, ‘as a defeated nation,’ should have acted with greater caution. ‘However, now, its current leader is trying to exploit the Taiwan issue – the very territory that Japan colonized for half a century, committing countless crimes against the Chinese people – to provoke problems and militarily threaten China. This is completely unacceptable,’ Wang declared, according to the official Chinese news agency Xinhua.
