Colombian President Accuses U.S. of Violating Sovereignty Over Fishing Boat Strike

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has accused the U.S. government of violating Colombia’s sovereignty in its territorial waters by striking a fishing boat in September. ‘U.S. government officials committed murder and violated our sovereignty in the territory,’ Petro stated. The incident occurred in the Caribbean Sea, around 30 nautical miles off the coast, where a U.S. ship allegedly attempted to intercept a drug smuggling vessel but ended up hitting the fishing boat instead, resulting in the death of one fisherman.
