Corinthians has been condemned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to pay R$ 41.3 million to midfielder Matías Rojas. Rojas terminated his contract with Corinthians last year. The player did not receive image rights and took legal action against the club. Corinthians had already been condemned by FIFA but appealed to CAS. The court did not yield to the arguments of the São Paulo club. The amount the Corinthians must pay Rojas corresponds to the sum he would receive until the end of the contract, which was set to expire in June 2027. In early 2024, the Augusto Melo management made an agreement to pay off the debt of around R$ 8 million and keep the player at the club. As the board did not comply with the agreement, the player sought to terminate the contract. Corinthians is now rushing to settle the payment with the player’s representatives. If an agreement is not reached within 45 days, a new transfer ban will be imposed on the club, which is already prohibited from registering new players due to owing Santos Laguna for the purchase of defender Félix Torres.
