In a tense atmosphere between government supporters and opposition, the CPMI (Mixed Parliamentary Inquiry Commission) of INSS (National Social Security Institute) approved sending a request for preventive detention against 21 people allegedly involved in the scheme of pension deductions and arrests to the STF (Supreme Federal Court). The request was forwarded to Minister André Mendonça, who is the rapporteur of the matter in the STF, who will decide on the compliance with the request. Among the names is Antonio Carlos Camilo Antunes, known as the ‘Bald of INSS’, and former INSS president Alessandro Stefanutto. The approved request targets the following individuals: Andre Paulo Felix Fidelis; Eric Douglas Martins Fidelis; Cecilia Rodrigues Mota; Virgilio Antonio Ribeiro de Oliveira Filho; Thaisa Hoffmann Jonasson; Maria Paula Xavier da Fonseca Oliveira; Alexandre Guimarães; Antonio Carlos Camilo Antunes; Rubens Oliveira Costa; Romeu Carvalho Antunes; Domingos Savio de Castro; Milton Salvador de Almeida Junior; Adelinon Rodrigues Junior; Alessandro Antonio Stefanutto; Geovani Batista Spiecker; Reinaldo Carlos Barroso de Almeida; Vanderlei Barbosa dos Santos; Jucimar Fonseca da Silva; Philipe Roters Coutinho; Mauricio Camisotti; Marcio Alaor de Araújo. The rapporteur Alfredo Gaspar (Union-AL) emphasized that the names of the first twenty are duly mentioned in the records within the STF. The name of Marcio Alaor de Araújo, on the other hand, was added after being mentioned by lawyer Eli Cohen, who testified before the CPMI on Monday. Alfredo Gaspar stated that the CPMI has the obligation to inform Minister André Mendonça, of the STF, so that, with the same grounds that led to the first-degree precautionary measures, preventive detention is decreed against the targets. ‘If there are no criteria and requirements for the application of preventive detention in this case, there are none in any case in Brazil,’ he emphasized.
