CSKA – Orenburg Match Referee Cancels Penalty in Added Time After VAR Assistance

In the 17th round match of the RPL between CSKA and Orenburg, referee Ivan Abrosimov canceled a penalty for the guests in added time after VAR assistance. Towards the end of the match, CSKA’s striker, Tamerlan Musaev, found himself one-on-one with Orenburg’s goalkeeper, Bogdan Ovsyannikov, and fell in the penalty area after contact with the opponent. The referee immediately blew the whistle for a foul and awarded a penalty, even though at that moment another CSKA player had kicked the ball into the empty net. After reviewing the VAR footage, Abrosimov changed his decision as it was clear that initially the Orenburg goalkeeper had played the ball before the contact with the CSKA forward.
