The approval rating of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the federal executive has increased and tied with disapproval. Now, both ratings stand at 48%, according to a Datafolha survey released this Thursday (11). In July, when the last survey was released, 46% approved of him and 50% thought otherwise. In April this year, the ratings were nearly tied, with 49% disapproval and 48% approval. The margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus. The survey interviewed 2,005 people over 16 years old in 113 cities between Monday (8) and Tuesday (9). The government’s approval rating rose to 33% — the highest index of the year — compared to the 38% disapproval. Datafolha shows that the profile of government approval maintained the general lines of the PT politician’s electorate: Lula is better evaluated among Northerners (45% excellent/good), less educated individuals (40%), those aged 45 to 59 (40%), and the poorer (39%). On the other hand, those who disapprove of his work are mostly from the South (52%), evangelicals (52%), wealthier individuals (from 47% to 51% among the three income brackets above 2 monthly minimum wages), and those with a college degree (46%). The survey demonstrates that compared to July, the politician’s approval rating jumped from 38% to 45% excellent/good in his loyal electorate in the Northeast, a segment with a margin of error of four points.
