At least 18 people have tragically lost their lives in Central Java province, Indonesia, over the past week as a result of severe landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, according to authorities’ reports on Monday. In Cilacap city, a major landslide engulfed a dozen homes in Cibeunying village, trapping victims under mud layers measuring between 3 to 8 meters (10 to 25 feet) in depth. The rescue operations have faced challenges due to the heavy debris obstructing efforts, as confirmed by officials.
