Death Toll Rises in Indonesia’s Central Java Landslides

Rain-triggered landslides in two regions of Central Java have resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people, according to authorities. One landslide in Cilacap buried a dozen houses in Cibeunying village. Search and rescue operations face challenges due to victims being buried deep underground. In Cilacap, 16 people have died and 7 are missing, with excavators being used to remove debris. In Banjarnegara, 2 died and 27 went missing after a separate landslide on Saturday, damaging houses and farms. Indonesia’s wet season, from September to April, brings a high risk of landslides due to heavy rainfall.
