In Mali, various activist groups are active with different agendas across the country in sub-Saharan Africa. Among them, a group associated with Al-Qaeda, known for their violent extremism, has been identified as hindering fuel transportation. As a result, hundreds of fuel trucks coming from neighboring countries have been halted, leading to a nationwide fuel shortage. This, in turn, has caused a significant increase in the prices of essential goods.
Furthermore, Burkina Faso and Nigeria have intervened by supplying fuel in trucks to Mali. To facilitate this, vehicles are lining up at gas stations in the capital city of Bamako to receive the fuel. However, the fuel shortage has caused difficulties in operating the vehicles, resulting in a decrease in school and college shutdowns across the country. Education Minister Amadou Sowani has highlighted this issue.
