Despite the tight vote in the Senate for the reappointment of the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, raising a warning among government officials, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s aides say that the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, remains the favorite to be nominated for the Supreme Court (STF) vacancy. Lula is expected to discuss the matter this week before traveling to South Africa for the BRICS summit on the 22nd and 23rd. Prior to announcing the nomination, Lula wants to meet with former Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) and the Minister of the Union Court of Audit (TCU) Bruno Dantas, who are also considered for the position.

Despite Senate’s warning, Messias remains Lula’s favorite for the Supreme Court
