Emergency crews are in a race against time to reach survivors as the death toll from catastrophic floods and landslides has surged past 1300 in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, with nearly 1000 people missing. Days of heavy monsoon rains have inundated vast areas, leaving thousands stranded and many clinging to rooftops and trees awaiting help. The flooding and landslides have claimed the lives of at least 1303 people, with 753 confirmed dead in Indonesia, 410 in Sri Lanka, and 181 in Thailand, according to officials. In Indonesia, the worst-hit nation, rescuers are facing challenges accessing villages on Sumatra island where roads have been washed out and bridges collapsed. Approximately 650 people are still missing, as reported by the country’s National Disaster Management Agency.
