The death toll from the devastating floods in South and Southeast Asia increased significantly on Friday, nearing the 400 mark, with at least 174 victims in Indonesia, 145 in Thailand, and 69 in Sri Lanka. The scenes in all three countries are similar: cities underwater, isolated residents, and landslides caused by heavy rains plaguing the region for several days. In Indonesia’s Sumatra island, floods and landslides have claimed at least 174 lives, with 80 people still missing, according to the latest official report. The head of the national disaster management agency warned that the death toll could rise further as there are ‘still inaccessible areas where there could be victims.’ The previous death toll stood at 111.
