Dialogue: Indonesia as the Future Home for Global Harmony

Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar delivered a powerful message about Indonesia’s role in the global harmony map. He emphasized that Indonesia is not just a diverse country, but also the home for future world harmony. The statement was made during the Interfaith Harmony Dialogue held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Building in Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, December 6, 2025. In front of religious leaders and the Secretary General of the World Muslim League, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Nasaruddin expressed the admiration of the international delegation visiting the country.

“I witnessed their fascination, not only with our customs and hospitality, but especially with the way this nation nurtures harmony as an expression of faith. Indonesia is the future home for global harmony, ” said Nasaruddin Umar. He stated that the future of humanity will not come from destructive competition or divisive supremacy. The necessary foundation is authentic harmony – both internally within religious communities, between different faiths, and between believers and governments.

“All of these are united in a noble call, the brotherhood of humanity, the brotherhood of humanity,” he emphasized. Nasaruddin also stressed that harmony is not only horizontal but must also be supported by a vertical relationship with nature. He highlighted the importance of ecotheology – the spiritual awareness that the earth is a trust from God.

“Harvesting the earth, polluting water and air, deforestation, are forms of betrayal of heavenly messages. The sky does not ask to be worshipped, but to be protected,” added the Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque. He stated that harmony with nature is the highest form of spiritual maturity.

Minister Nasaruddin Umar also appreciated the role of the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB) throughout Indonesia, which is considered successful in maintaining social ties. However, he warned of increasingly complex challenges such as polarization, hate speech, extremism, and environmental crises. “All of this can only be answered with clarity of conscience, collective policy, and loyalty to values that transcend sectarian boundaries,” he said.

“Religion is love, and love knows no bounds. Maintaining harmony is worship. Sowing peace is social remembrance. Bringing love into life is proof that we believe not only in words but also in deeds and actions,” concluded Minister Nasaruddin.
