Dispute over São Paulo’s payments to Daniel Alves leads to multimillion-dollar legal battle

Part of the R$22.8 million from the termination contract that São Paulo signed with Daniel Alves in September 2021, and is still paying to this day, has become the subject of disputes in different lawsuits. According to the agreement, which stipulated 60 monthly installments starting in January 2022, the club will have to pay the former full-back until January 2027. Daniel currently lives in Spain and awaits judgment in the third and final instance for the allegation of sexual assault. A specialized investment fund called GAD, focusing on credit rights, claims in São Paulo’s court that it made an agreement with Daniel in September 2022: it paid the former player R$11.5 million upfront and, in return, received the rights to all future installments he was due to receive from São Paulo (at that time, the amount was R$19.8 million).
