A Dutch drug convict departed from a provincial Indonesian jail to be transferred to the capital Jakarta on Sunday, preparing for deportation to the Netherlands the following day. Ali Tokman and Siegfried Mets, convicted drug smugglers, have been held in Indonesian prisons for years due to the country’s strict drug laws. Their return to the Netherlands on humanitarian grounds was arranged after recent negotiations between Indonesia and the Dutch government. Tokman was moved from Surabaya Prison in East Java to Jakarta’s Cipinang Penitentiary under police escort.
