Eduardo Bolsonaro Absent from Virtual Sessions after Requesting to Work from the US

Despite having requested authorization from the Chamber of Deputies to carry out his mandate remotely, deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who has been in the United States since February, has not attended or voted in the semi-presential sessions held since the end of his parliamentary leave ended on July 20th. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chamber has allowed parliamentarians to participate remotely through a two-step verification mobile app – usually on Thursdays and occasionally on other days of the week. This practice has continued even after the end of the health emergency.
In the six semi-presential sessions held since the end of the leave, Eduardo has not participated in any of them. According to data available on the deputy’s official page on the Chamber’s website, he has 13 days of presence recorded and 17 unjustified absences in 2025 – representing just over half of the sessions held this year. Eduardo has been in the United States since February, where he is involved in political negotiations related to sanctions against Brazilian authorities.
In the letter sent to the Chamber’s president, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), the deputy stated that he is abroad due to ‘political persecutions,’ citing the remote model adopted during the pandemic as a precedent. In an interview with CNN earlier this month, Hugo Motta stated that Eduardo Bolsonaro was aware of the risks of losing his mandate by moving to the United States and emphasized that there is no legal provision for parliamentary work remotely.
