Egypt condemns forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, dismisses claims of voluntary movement as ‘nonsense’

Egypt has been playing a mediating role between Israel and Hamas for almost two years in a bid to halt the ongoing conflict. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty condemned the alleged forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, stating, ‘If there is a manmade famine in Gaza, it is to push residents out of their land. It is nonsense to say that this is voluntary displacement.’ Abdelatty made these remarks during a joint press conference with UNRWA chief Pierre Krahenbuhl in Cairo. The Egyptian government opposes the idea of Palestinians leaving Gaza voluntarily and believes it is part of a larger strategy to coerce them off their land. The escalating tension between Israel and Hamas has led to severe humanitarian crises in Gaza, prompting Egypt to intervene and seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
