Egypt opens $1.2B Grand Museum, showcasing Tutankhamun’s tomb in full for the first time

Located near the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Egypt has inaugurated the Grand Egyptian Museum, the world’s largest archaeological museum costing over $1.2 billion. Covering 500,000 square meters, it houses 100,000 artefacts from 7,000 years of history, with Tutankhamun’s treasures displayed together for the first time. The aim is to boost tourism and heritage. The discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922 by Howard Carter remains a pivotal moment. Visitors can now see all 5,500 objects from the tomb, including his iconic death mask and personal belongings, in an immersive exhibit reconstructing the burial context.
