Egyptian FM on Sudan’s Hemedti’s remarks: We have strategic patience

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has clarified Egypt’s official response to recent remarks made by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, the commander of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). During an interview on Yahduth Fi Masr (Happening in Egypt) with TV host Sherif Amer on MBC Masr, Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt is a major and respected country, committed to civilized conduct and strategic patience. He reiterated Egypt’s focus on ensuring the well-being of the Sudanese people and highlighted Egypt’s clean record in relations with neighboring countries and globally.

Abdelatty expressed gratitude for Egypt’s clean hands in Sudan, Libya, and beyond, asserting Egypt’s non-involvement in the shedding of innocent blood. He cited President El-Sisi’s commitment to upholding honor in Egypt’s foreign policy, which is a rarity in contemporary times. In late October, Hemedti had threatened to target airports in neighboring countries, causing speculation regarding Egypt. However, analysts believed Hemedti did not intend Egypt as a target, recognizing the repercussions. Egypt has consistently supported Sudan’s state institutions, particularly the army, advocating for conflict resolution, a humanitarian ceasefire, and relief for the Sudanese people.
