Egypt’s Sobhi Receives Four-Year Doping Ban, Says Anti-Doping Body

Egypt international Ramadan Sobhi, who assisted Pyramids in winning their first CAF Champions League title last season and previously played in the English Premier League, has been handed a four-year ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for an anti-doping rule violation, confirmed Egypt’s anti-doping authority on Wednesday. ‘We have received an official letter confirming Ramadan Sobhi’s four-year suspension in a doping case,’ stated Hazem Khamis, head of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organisation, to reporters. The suspension of Sobhi relates to allegations of doping and sample tampering. Sobhi has yet to address the sanction, and his lawyer mentioned preparing an appeal to the Swiss Federal Court. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) contested the initial lifting of Sobhi’s provisional suspension, which briefly allowed him to return to play, leading to the referral of the case to CAS.
