ETH Zurich Researchers Develop Microrobots for Drug Delivery

Researchers at ETH Zurich have successfully developed microrobots designed to transport drugs to precise locations within the body. According to Professor Landers, one of the main challenges was ensuring that the tiny capsules possessed sufficient magnetic properties for effective drug delivery. The microrobots also require a contrast agent to allow doctors to track their movement through X-ray imaging. The team focused their research on tantalum nanoparticles and precise iron oxide nanoparticles developed by Professor Salvador Pané from the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems, enabling the required functionality.
