Ethiopia confirmed its first Marburg outbreak with nine cases in a southern region bordering South Sudan. The WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, commended Ethiopia’s swift response, showing a ‘commitment to control the outbreak quickly.’ Ethiopia’s government’s transparency in investigating the viral hemorrhagic fever was praised by Africa CDC. The WHO sent a technical team to provide support in testing and outbreak response. They are supplying personal protective equipment, infection prevention supplies, and an isolation tent for clinical care. The outbreak in the Omo region near South Sudan raised concerns due to the fragile health system in the neighboring country.
