Ethiopia responded on Saturday to Egypt’s allegations of triggering floods in Sudan by opening the gates of the Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Nile. Ethiopia dismissed Egypt’s claims as ‘false’ and emphasized that the dam is a source of regional tension. Addis Ababa recently launched the GERD, the largest hydroelectric project in Africa, to harness the Nile’s potential for electricity generation.
