Ethiopia has recently marked the inauguration of Africa’s largest hydroelectric dam on the Blue Nile. The $5bn project, known as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), has sparked tensions with downstream neighbors Sudan and Egypt. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed praised the dam as a significant milestone for Ethiopia’s growth and development.
