Carbuzz: Audi and Porsche named the most reliable German cars in the world. The automotive experts at Carbuzz have compiled a list of the most durable German cars capable of surpassing 480,000 kilometers without major breakdowns, provided they receive proper maintenance. The list includes eight models released from the 1980s to the early 2010s, known for their quality assembly and construction reliability. Rounding out the rankings is the BMW M5 E39 (1998–2003) – a sports sedan that was the last representative of an era when German cars were known for their simplicity and durability. Following closely is the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class AMG R129 (1989–2001) with the legendary 7.3-liter V12 engine, still considered one of the brand’s most reliable motors. The Volkswagen Golf V (2004–2009) with a V6 3.2 engine also made the list for its durability and stable performance. Among the sports models, the BMW M3 E46 (2000–2006) and the Porsche Boxster S 987 (2004–2012) are highlighted for their combination of dynamics and longevity. Leading the pack are the Porsche 911 Carrera 997 (2005–2012) and the second-generation Audi TT (2008–2015), with the experts recognizing the Mercedes-Benz E-Class W124 (1984–1995) as the ultimate winner. It was awarded the title of ‘engineering benchmark of its time’ and is considered the most reliable German car of the past few decades. Automotive experts emphasize that the lifespan of these models directly depends on maintenance – with timely service, many of them can last several decades, setting a standard for quality and reliability.
