India has been moving towards its goals of reducing malaria cases; however, the latest WHO report reveals that the country still carries the greatest malaria burden in the South-East Asia Region. Experts caution that inadequate surveillance and delayed treatment continue to contribute to outbreaks. Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Sinha, Senior Consultant- Internal Medicine at Aakash Healthcare, noted that despite efforts, India remains a significant contributor to the malaria burden in the region. Factors such as densely populated areas with insufficient mosquito control and delays in testing and treatment have exacerbated the situation. The lack of testing facilities in remote regions presents additional challenges.
