Exploring Ikea’s Latest Matter-over-Thread Smart Home Devices

Ikea recently unveiled a fresh lineup of smart home gadgets, featuring a range of lighting options, sensors, and controls. Breaking away from its traditional furniture offerings, Ikea has delved into the world of smart home technology, aiming to provide innovative and affordable solutions to consumers. The collection comprises 21 new devices designed to work seamlessly with Apple HomePods and Google Homes, thanks to their Matter-over-Thread compatibility. David Granath, Range Manager at Ikea of Sweden, emphasized the brand’s commitment to making smart home technology accessible to all, stating that their latest launch is geared towards simplifying the user experience and enhancing affordability.

This isn’t Ikea’s first venture into smart home technology, as the brand previously integrated tech into its furniture pieces like hidden air purifiers and discreet speakers. However, this new collection stands out for being the first to feature Matter-certified products, ensuring hassle-free compatibility across different smart home devices. By adopting the Matter standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, Ikea’s smart home gadgets can now seamlessly communicate with other devices, eliminating the need for additional hubs.

In addition to being Matter-over-Thread compatible, Ikea’s devices also boast Thread connectivity, enhancing their ability to connect wirelessly. The collection is divided into three main categories: lighting, sensors, and controls. The lighting range includes a variety of smart bulbs and sensors designed to monitor home conditions. While specific pricing and release dates are yet to be announced, Ikea’s new smart home products are set to offer consumers a wide range of choices and functionalities.

The lighting category features Kajplats smart bulbs in different shapes and sizes, along with sensor options like Myggspray for automatic lighting control and Myggbett for door/window monitoring. Additionally, the collection includes sensors like Timmerflotte for temperature and humidity readings, Alpstuga for air quality monitoring, and Klippbok for detecting water leaks. For remote control options, Ikea offers the Bilresa range, including options with dual buttons or a scroll wheel, as well as smart plug solutions like Grillplats for remote appliance control and energy tracking.

With its latest Matter-over-Thread collection of smart home devices, Ikea is poised to make a significant impact in the smart home market, offering consumers practical and affordable solutions for enhancing their living spaces.
