EXTRA: Bolsonaro Arrested: Violation of Ankle Monitor and Risk of Escape – The Subject #1604

Early on Saturday morning (22), former President Jair Bolsonaro was arrested at his home and taken to the Federal Police Headquarters in Brasília. The preventive arrest was decreed by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes and is not related to the 27-year, 3-month sentence for attempted coup. In the decision, Moraes cited the risk of flight, violation of the ankle monitor, and risk to public order.

Arrested, Bolsonaro said he used a soldering iron on the ankle monitor. Questioned by a prison officer, the former president stated that he began tampering with the device on Friday evening. On Sunday (23), Bolsonaro will undergo a custody hearing with a judge. In this special episode, Natuza Nery talks with Maria Cristina Fernandes about the grounds for the arrest request. Maria Cristina details Moraes’ decision and analyzes Bolsonaro’s political and legal situation.

A columnist for Valor Econômico and commentator for GloboNews and radio CBN, Maria Cristina discusses how Flávio Bolsonaro’s call for supporters of his father to demonstrate outside his condominium deepens a crack within the right. She evaluates how the preventive arrest affects the execution of the sentence for attempted coup. Guest: Maria Cristina Fernandes, columnist for Valor Econômico and commentator for GloboNews and radio CBN.
