Lando Norris turned the São Paulo GP qualifying into another display of McLaren’s strength. The British driver secured pole position at Interlagos after an unpredictable session marked by surprises, errors, and the absence of Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto. Kimi Antonelli finished second, while Charles Leclerc placed Ferrari in third, rounding out the top 3.
The weekend started with high expectations for Bortoleto, but a strong crash during the sprint race destroyed his car. Sauber worked until the last minute to rebuild it but without success. The Brazilian received applause from the team in the paddock and will start from the pits in last place on Sunday.
Max Verstappen also struggled at Interlagos. The F1 four-time champion couldn’t tame the RBR car and ended qualifying in 16th place, far from the battle for the lead and needing to overtake a large portion of the grid to have a shot at victory.
Lewis Hamilton had another challenging session. The British driver from Ferrari failed to advance to Q3 and will start in 13th place, confirming a performance below expectations at the São Paulo circuit. Oliver Bearman from Haas started off impressively by leading the early stages of qualifying but ended up only in eighth place.
The big positive highlight was Kimi Antonelli. The young Italian driver from Mercedes managed to maintain his pace in the crucial moments and was only 0.174s behind Norris. Charles Leclerc completed the top 3, with Oscar Piastri starting in fourth.
