Female voices of rap open The Town with Karol Conká, Ebony and Ajulia Costa

The One stage opened The Town this Saturday (6) with female protagonism in Brazilian rap. Artists Karol Conká, Ebony, and Ajulia Costa shared the stage in a show marked by empowerment, anti-racist discourse, and the power of a new generation that is renewing the genre in the country. Karol Conká kicked off the program at 2:40 pm with a heavy sound that mixed elements of afrobeat and funk. The golden scenery, reminiscent of royalty, reinforced the tone of the show, while a screen displayed videos with messages against prejudice and in favor of empowering women and the black population. In the repertoire, hits like ‘É o poder’, ‘Boa noite’, and ‘Lalá’, as well as a special participation of her son Jota Conjota in ‘Sandália’. The audience of about 300 people, mostly young and black, went crazy when Ajulia Costa took the stage. The rapper brought ‘Poetisas no topo’, with a sample of Beyoncé’s ‘Crazy in Love’, and announced the release of her new album, Novo Testamento, scheduled for the next day 15. Ebony, a native of Queimados, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, was also invited by Karol to join the celebration. In the setlist, she mixed lyrics about sexuality, sex, and social criticism, going through the classic ‘Pensamentos Intrusivos’ and tracks from her most recent work, KM2, released in May. In the end, the three artists shared the microphone in homage to the women who paved the way in Brazilian rap, reinforcing that the space conquered today is the result of collective struggle and that new voices are still emerging with strength.
