First Civil Trial on 737 Max Crash in Ethiopia Begins with Boeing Settling Lawsuits

The first civil trial surrounding the Boeing 737 Max crash in Ethiopia, which occurred over six years ago, commenced before a federal court jury in Chicago. The jury was tasked with determining the compensation that the American aerospace company needs to pay to the family of one victim out of the 157 who perished. The eight-person jury, located in Chicago where Boeing previously had its headquarters, was expected to establish compensation amounts for two women who tragically lost their lives in the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 in March 2019. However, right before the jurors entered the courtroom for opening statements, U.S. District Judge Jorge Luis Alonso was informed that one of the cases had been settled outside of court.
