Five Days Searching for Missing Autistic Child: Rescuers Blamed Themselves for Being Only 200 Meters Away

After 101 hours, 8-year-old KaiKai, who has autism, was found by a stream in Dali Cangshan mountain. Rescuers searched tirelessly, dividing the area and calling out for him with his favorite snacks like Oreos and Coke. “KaiKai, come out quickly, uncle has Oreos and Coke here,” the shouts echoed through the mountain forest. This was a special code, hoping that the child would respond to familiar treats when called. On August 9th at noon, KaiKai went missing in Dali Cangshan. He has autism and struggles with verbal communication, pausing when called by name but reacting to words like Coke, ice cream, and Oreos. The search was incredibly challenging. Over 5000 professional rescuers and volunteers divided the mountain into small areas, meticulously searching for any signs of the child.
