Five new suspects in Louvre robbery case arrested simultaneously

New information has emerged about those detained in the investigation of the Louvre robbery. According to RTL on October 30th, sources in the judicial authorities reported that five new suspects have been arrested. They were apprehended simultaneously in different locations in Paris around 9 pm yesterday. Despite the arrests, the stolen treasures were not recovered during this wave of detentions. The first two suspects arrested last Saturday ‘partially admitted to the crimes,’ said prosecutor Laura Becco at a press conference on Wednesday. Surveillance camera footage showed four perpetrators, but investigators are not ruling out the involvement of a much larger group. The prosecutor described the crime as a ‘commando-style operation’. The Louvre was robbed last Sunday, October 19th. Thieves climbed a sliding ladder to the balcony on the second floor, entered the Apollo Gallery, smashed glass display cases, stole valuables, and fled on motorcycles. They took nine items, including emerald necklace and earrings gifted by Napoleon to Marie-Louise, a diamond bow brooch, and Empress Eugenie’s tiara. The damage from the robbery was estimated at 88 million euros. The first suspect, as reported by ‘Fontanka’, was arrested at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport, as he was attempting to fly to Algeria. The second was apprehended by the judicial police of Paris in Saint-Denis. Both men had prior run-ins with the police for break-ins. Today, news broke of the arrest of new suspects.
