‘Flaco Roque’ shines, but doesn’t work magic for Abel Ferreira

Flaco López and Vitor Roque were the names behind Palmeiras’ 4-0 victory over Universitario in the Libertadores on Thursday. Both actively participated in all four goals of the triumph and received praise from Abel Ferreira in the post-match press conference in Peru. The Portuguese coach, however, emphasized: he won’t rely solely on them in the attack.

Abel doesn’t believe in magic
“As I don’t believe in magic formulas and that the training and evolution process of a team is never-ending, it’s a solution we have. It was good to see them up front, a young duo with different characteristics. It’s another option. It doesn’t mean we’ll always play like this, but it’s an option,” Abel Ferreira said in a press conference.

The duo was fielded as starters for the first time, and Abel’s gamble proved to be spot on.
