Former champions Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry found themselves in a five-way tie for the lead at the Abu Dhabi Championship after posting outstanding 8-under 64 scores on Thursday in the United Arab Emirates. Alongside Ryder Cup stars Fleetwood and Lowry were Frenchman Adrien Saddier, New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori, and South African Richard Sterne, the sole player in the field who also participated in the inaugural 2006 event. Fleetwood, the winner in 2017 and 2018, showcased his prowess with eight birdies in a flawless round, while 2019 champion Lowry managed nine birdies with just one bogey. ‘It’s Thursday. You can’t win it, but eight under is a really nice way to start,’ commented Fleetwood.
