Flights disrupted as Hayli Gubbi volcano erupts in Ethiopia after 12,000 years

Ethiopia experienced a volcanic eruption with significant consequences for flight operations on Monday. The long-dormant Hayli Gubbi volcano in northern Ethiopia erupted for the first time in over 12,000 years. This event caused disruptions in flight routes towards India and West Asia, as a massive ash cloud spread across the Red Sea and headed towards South Asia. The aviation industry had to respond quickly to the unexpected situation. An IndiGo flight from Kannur to Abu Dhabi, flight number 6E 1433, had to be diverted to Ahmedabad due to the volcanic ash from the eruption.
