Residents of the Indonesian region of Aceh Tamiang climbed on slippery logs and walked for about an hour on Saturday to seek help, as the death toll from floods and landslides hitting Sumatra Island this month surpassed 900. The known death toll from floods and landslides induced by cyclones in three Indonesian provinces of Sumatra, including Aceh, was 916 on Saturday, with 274 reported missing, according to government data. Storm systems also caused approximately 200 deaths in southern Thailand and Malaysia. Survivors from the Aceh Tamiang region, on the northeast coast of Sumatra, walked for an hour, traversing scattered logs and overturned cars to reach a help distribution center set up by volunteers, as reported by Reuters.
