Floods in South Asia have already claimed at least 590 lives in the past week

Authorities have closed schools and other public facilities, suspended railways, and shut down roads in many parts of the country due to heavy rains and rock, mud, and tree falls blocking roads and railways. On Friday, water began flooding regions around the capital, Colombo, which experienced comparatively less intense rainfall. The storm is expected to head towards the southern coast of India by Sunday, with bad weather persisting in northern Sri Lanka on Saturday.
